Summary: Since its inception in 1999, The Massachusetts Interfaith Alliance has established a network of religious and lay leaders in more than 70 communities. Five communities held STOP the HATE vigils in 2000, and eight in 2001. The Boston Vigils were endorsed by the Massachusetts Legislature and governor, as well as by more than 100 individuals and religious organizations. In 2002, Massalliance has developed partnerships with interfaith organizations in 40 communities, with the goal of providing immediate response to hate activities and creating a central clearing house where groups can share concerns and solutions.

It was one of the early chartered Alliances of TIA and has participated in all national programs and initiatives as well as many local and state issues since that time including: election cycle campaigns (Call to a Faithful Decision and One Nation, Many Faiths), annual Stop the Hate Vigils, TIA interfaith forums(Civility in Public Debate and Campaign Finance Reform as a Faith Issue), numerous public education forums, and joined various state coalitions around issues such as Hate Crime Legislation, Religion and the State, Cultural and Faith Diversity.
